  4.  THE RETURN OF AYERS ROCK

  6.  AYERS ROCK, Australia (AP), 10/27/85:  The government gave
  7. back Ayers Rock, the world's largest monolith and one of
  8. Australia's biggest tourist attractions, to aborigines who
  9. consider caves at its base to be sacred.  The aborigines,
  10. who claim descent from tribes that lived around the rock
  11. about 30,000 years ago, immediately leased the monolith and
  12. and the national park surrounding it back to the federal
  13. government for 99 years.  They will be paid $52,500 a year
  14. and get 20 percent of admission fees.  The aborigines also
  15. will be on the park's board of management.

  19. rotting away from bureaucratic neglect, by the way) called
